Social Media Celebrity: Emily Gowor

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

1) What would the world like to know about you and your Company’s background?

My company (me), currently branded as ‘Emily Gowor – Word Artist’ has been born purely out of doing what I love – writing for people. When I realized that it was possible to do what I love as well as add value to the lives and businesses of others, I saw no reason not to pursue doing more of what I love. “Word Artist” is a pure description of what I love to do and who I am as a writer.

I do consulting and soon professional speaking under the brand as well, however the main focus and mission of ‘Emily Gowor – Word Artist’ has been all about taking who people truly are, and capturing that essence, through words. This has come out and developed through books, websites, articles, professional profiles and more.

2) What is your Company’s most compelling Social Media Marketing Goal?

To create 1000 raving fans of “Emily Gowor” within the upcoming 2-3 years. “Raving fans” being people who have been touched and inspired by my work (writing, speaking or consulting) in some way that has transformed or assisted in transforming one or more areas of their life.

3) How are you successfully achieving your goal?

  • Massively utilizing online social media marketing platforms to share content, add value and deliver tips and insights that will assist people in living the life they would love.

  • Combining that with actual in-person networking at events and seminars to meet people (and then direct them to my personal website, Facebook, Twitter, etc).

  • Making the effort to share my ‘lifestyle’ with the people who are in my network online – particularly Facebook – through photos, personal stories and posts, and other quotes of wisdom.

  • Networking with other individuals who have large, sustainable networks of people who they refer my Fan Page to (Facebook) and therefore, increase the number of fans and friends that I have online.

4) What unique methods are you using to measure your results?

What I do know is that I’m building attraction and magnetism around who I am and what I am inspired by every time I make a post online. The increase of people becoming friends with me online on Facebook is a direct representation of the success, as there has also been an increase in people requesting my services as a professional writer, speaker and consultant.

I do know however, that about 70% of the hits on my website (between 30 and 100 every day consistently – weekends included) are generated from Facebook.

So thus far, that has been my measure (bearing in mind that my brand as the Word Artist is fairly new) as far as we have gone now. I suppose you could also look at the number of friends on Facebook, # of fans, etc. I know that I haven’t even nearly tapped the HUGE power that is available with SMM.

5) What is your favorite Social Media Marketing platform, and why is it your favorite?

Facebook – hands down.

Facebook is whole and complete as a Social Media Marketing platform for the following reasons (and these are why it suits me best):

  • It’s balanced between personal and professional

    • This allows me to build client relationships that are friendships. This means that I have ‘better’ quality working relationships with the people who convert, so to speak, into being clients of mine in through my brand. I prefer this level of communication with my clients – it also raises the standard of work that I am inspired to deliver for the people who I work in partnerships with.

    • This includes sharing photos, blogs, notes and public conversations about what has occurred, is occurring or will be occurring in your life/business. Facebook is a very valuable tool if what you do is tied in closely with the life you live – if you  are entrepreneurial (which I am).

  • It’s open to a diverse market of individuals

    • Anyone from anywhere doing almost anything can join Facebook. This means that you are potentially hitting a much broader market than some of the other social network platforms that are available online. Facebook brings individuals from all walks of life together – and depending on your company or business – this is a blessing to have.

  • It is a very well-established SMM platform

    • There are enough functions on Facebook now to share value through video, written, image-based and many other multimedia styles. This allows individuals and companies to become diverse in how they can share their message and really add value to people. The more you add value to people through the most avenues, the more ‘success’ you have the potential to experience through your SMM efforts.

  • It’s a great platform to really get to know other people

    • As well as the above points and being a balance between personal and professional, Facebook gives people the opportunity to get to know one another on deeper levels. The more you get to know people, the more you find out what is truly important to them and therefore you are able to tailor your products/services and message to how it will assist them in their life. When you care about other people and care that they have what they want (and then help to deliver on that) you get what you want in life. Top level communication = sales!

6) How much time you spend on updating your status on various Social Media Platforms?

I spend anywhere between 5 and 10 hours a week (sometimes 20 +) updating my SM Platforms. Updating for me in how I work is not just about the status itself, but its about networking with other peoples status’s and content as well. It’s about building relationships with the people in your online network, talking to new people, opening up new possibilities for who to talk to, new value to offer and add new ways to share what is the “HOT TOPIC” of the week for your line of work or profession.

7) Have you had new leads/business generated directly as a result of your Social Media efforts?

Yes – without a doubt. I have been introduced to and given the opportunity to work on much larger projects (such as interviewing, websites, book manuscript projects and more) through my SM efforts. I am focused on a long-term strategy through SMM to build attraction, certainty and magnetism around who I am, what I do, what I am inspired about, and how that adds value to the lives of others.

8] What one Social Media tip or strategy would you like to share with new small business professionals who are looking to emulate your Social Media Marketing success?

“Why do you try so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?” – What A Girl Wants (movie)

I think my biggest, most profound advice on utilizing SMM platforms to elevate success is to really build a unique profile of who you are/your business, etc that people can relate to and know you by. Remember that uniqueness is what stands out.

No matter what your company or business or line of work, you have a message to share – especially if you are getting into or are already in, SMM platforms. Make sure you share your message behind the product or service you are offering – this is what inspires people.

Use the following tools to do this:

  • Blogs and notes

    • Share tips and wisdom

    • Share your personal journey – if appropriate

    • Become personal with people

  • Photo albums and galleries

    • Your events or courses

    • Products

    • People who are your clients

    • Your travels, if any

  • Videos

    • Professionally or personally shot

    • Another avenue to deliver your message

  • Status updates!

9) Do you have any “Do’s” or “Don’ts” for others?

Do’s

  • Create a blog to share value – without giving it all away of course

  • CARE about the people you have in your network

  • Appreciate each person as part of the whole network – The ocean is made up of drops

  • The more you put in, the more you get out – invest in updating, delivering value

  • Let people get to know you – be authentic, show more sides of yourself/your business

  • Share the WHY behind what you do in business and personal life  - stick to where you are most inspired, feel most inspirational – inspiration is the most powerful marketing tool of all as it radiates and people are drawn to it

  • Make links to other people’s content, websites and profiles – when you help other people get what they want, you get what you want.

Don’ts

  • Don’t worry if you have lag periods in the growth process – that is the natural rise and fall of nature playing out in the social networking arena

  • Don’t be afraid to post some controversial topics for people – you want to stimulate your network keeping it professional – it assists you to generate authority over time (you will know when you KNOW your stuff)

  • Don’t cut too many people out. It’s not wise to completely ignore some people – communicate with them even if at the simplest level of saying hello and thanking them for being in your network. Ask them what’s important to them. Use it as sales training.

  • Don’t comment on other people’s sites or websites unless it is something you genuinely are interested in or feel about. People appreciate people being genuine – meaning what they say and following through on it is powerful.

10) Where do you see yourself and your company’s Social Media Marketing efforts one year from now?

I see my brand building a much wider network, from hundreds to thousands of individuals from around the world. Delivering greater amounts of value and stepping even more into multimedia – i.e. video (YouTube) and audio – for people. Heading more towards using Twitter and other online networking to leverage my profile as well (Facebook has been a hugely successful foundation for this to unfold).
